My Goal

I hope to fly 60 different TYPE airplanes during the year after my 60th birthday to highlight a 37 year career in aviation and celebrate my birthday.   You can help me reach my goal and be a part of the celebration. (Due to #6, make that 60 different type AIRCRAFT!!  Maybe it will have to change later to "heavier than air flying machines"?!)

PS I'm in Ft. Worth, TX

If you have an airplane and would be willing to let me fly it, contact me

On this page I will list any sponsors that help me reach my goal.  Any comercial operation who lets me fly their airplane will be listed as will any company who comes forward and gives products, services, or other incentives to entice people to let me fly their airplanes.

Much thanks to Sierra Industries and CEO Mark Huffstutler for helping me reach my goal.  They offer some great airplane upgrades for the Citation series jets and others.  I flew the Sierra Super II and can attest to the great performance.  Before you overhaul engines on a Citation, be sure to give one of these a try!  The below is taken from their web site.  Click on the picture below to go to their web site.

Fly Before You Buy
Sierra’s remarkable Williams FJ44 engine upgrades for Citation I, II and S-II aircraft aren’t easy to put into words. Pages of performance graphs and operating cost benefits may be informative, but they are hardly the complete story. In fact, it’s difficult to convey the feel of the aircraft’s transformation without sounding a bit like a giddy teenager. So we’d like to invite you to experience it for yourself. Our "Fly before you Buy" program gives you the opportunity to see the aircraft up close and spend the time you need to make a well-informed decision. Take advantage of a golden opportunity to pick your own destinations, companions and schedule and put an FJ44-powered Citation thru its paces to see if it really fits your needs. There’ll be no salesman sitting next to you — just you and the airplane getting to know each other (though we’ll happily arrange for flight crew if you wish). Given a chance, we’re convinced our aircraft modifications will sell themselves. Whether you already own a Citation or are in the market for a fresh aircraft, don’t miss this opportunity to see what Sierra re-engining can do for you. Call 1-888-835-9377 today to find out more.

Mike Plyler has been a friend for several years.  We met through our love of flying and flying aerobatics in particular.  Mike has been very generous over the years sharing his facilities and much of his time and work supporting the Dallas chapter of the IAC and IAC national during contests.  North Texas Regional Airport (the old Grayson Co. Airport) is the site of the Lone Star regional contest and the National Aerobatic Championships.  They wouldn't be the same without Mike and all his help.

If you or your company are in need of some large construction help, give him a call.  I'll let this clip from his web site speak for itself.

Thanks to Ladd Gardner for the SNJ ride.  Give him a call for insurance quote or other services.

The US Flight Academy did a great job on 6-16-09.  Chief Flight Instructor Patrick Dennis made the arrangements, worked out a great rate, and did the flight in the R22 on 6-17-09.  He had it all arranged in advance and I managed to fly 7 different airplanes in a very short time.  While I was flying with one instructor, another instructor was getting the next aircraft ready.  Turn-around times were minimal and even at Denton airport which gets busy from time to time, we got it all done.  About 2.4 hours flying time in under 4 hours total!!  Thanks to Patrick and to Chief Flight Instructor, Rick McElroy and Director of Standards, David Adams and CFI Theo Hasse, who flew with me.

Santa Barbara Flying Club

Joel picked up the tab but wanted give a plug to the Santa Barbara Flying club, so here it is.  This is from their website:

Since 1947, the Santa Barbara Flying Club has made flying less expensive, more convenient, less hassle, and more fun for generations of pilots in the Santa Barbara, California area. Look at what we have to offer:

A pair of four-place airplanes for traveling and training.

The Santa Barbara Flying Club has two aircraft: a Cessna 172 (160 hp, fixed pitch propeller) and a Grumman Tiger (180 hp, fixed pitch propeller). Both airplanes have intercom jacks for all four seats and full IFR instrumentation, making them ideal for training toward your instrument rating. The Tiger is equipped with a Garmin GNS 430 navigator.

Thanks Joel.

The T211 was originally built and certified by John Thorp and is now built by IndUS along with the LSA version (the first USA built LSA certified aircraft).  I flew the 120hp version and it was sporty with very nice control feel.  Simple design and easy to fly.  Call Scott Severen at (214) 337-6387 or email at sales@indusav.com for information.  Thanks for the ride Scott!!
